Why AI Safety East Africa?
East Africa is at a pivotal moment in AI adoption, yet it remains primarily a consumer rather than a producer of AI systems. As AI rapidly transforms global economies, the region must proactively shape its AI landscape to ensure safety, equity, and long-term benefits. Without dedicated AI safety efforts, East Africa risks exploitation, job displacement, security threats, exclusion from AI-driven economic growth, and many other catastrophic risks.
With an understanding that the future of safe and governed AI will help in mitigating catastrophic risks, AISEA exists to empower and train (Technical and Governance using the AI Safety Fundamentals Curriculum) students and professionals in East Africa and the International community to develop AI systems that are safe and beneficial for society and that can prevent catastrophic harms caused by AI systems.

Ready to shape the future of AI?
At AISEA, we are building the skills East Africa needs to safely navigate the AI revolution. As part of the Magenta AI initiative, we are contributing to a broader movement for ethical and safe AI. The question is — are you ready to join us?
The Training will be based on the BLUEDOT IMPACT syllabus developed by leading researchers from Harvard, Oxford, and Cambridge. We have carefully adapted the content to include readings and case studies that reflect the current developments in East Africa, ensuring that the material is locally relevant and contextually grounded.
